Has anybody visited Cappella di Sansevero in Naples?

My husand and I will be traveling to Naples next spring and I was wondering if anybody has spent time in cappella di sansevero chapel. Was it worth the trip and how difficult would it be to get there from the port of Naples, as we will be on a cruise. Thanks for your help.

Hi K,

It is worth the visit, if only to see the Veiled Christ.

It's about 1.5 km from the boat dock.

Thanks Ira, We will actually be in Naples on Easter Sunday and I'm a bit concerned about we'll find open. Any other suggestions?

I think it's fantastic. It is very tiny, and I was also told to go there to see the Veiled Christ, but I actually was much more fascinated by the other statues.

Double check me on this, but I think the world-famous archeological museum in Napoli is open on Sundays. I think I went on a Sunday and it's marvelous. And Napoli's most important churches should also be open (except during the lunch hour.) I didn't go to the Capidomonte, but I would think it would be open, too.

Look into hiring a reliable driver/guide to Naploli to drive you all over the place and take you someplace special for a lunch (pizza?) and for a pastry and coffee in the later part of the day. Napoli is a fantastic, eye-popping, jaw-dropping city. See as much of it as you can.

I'm sure people on Fodor's could recommend some reliable guides to you.

The archeological museum may be open on Sundays, but I doubt anything is open on Easter Sunday, perhaps including Sansevero except for Mass.

This subject has come up several times on Fodor's.

Italy is not a very religiously observant country. There is a national holiday the day after Easter, but most things are open on Sundays, except for the restaurants that usually close that day. But double check with research on the web. Here are some places to start:

http://www.travelplan.it/naples_guid...es_museums.htm

http://www.naples.world-guides.com/m...galleries.html

But Napoli itself is a sight to behold. Spending the afternoon driving and walking around is quite compelling.

If you want to know what is and isn't open in Napoli or how to plan a tour on Easter Sunday, try contacting the tourist board in Napoli directly:

Hi K,

Capella Sansevero is normally open 10-13:00 on Sundays.

I don't know about Easter Sunday, however.

I have to ask, what Cruise will you be on. I had the same question as my husband and I will be in Naples Easter 2007 as well.
I have heard there is a parade on Easter, but I don't know where or when.
That is all I have been able to find out.

Miki, I have sent a message to the info in Naples address that nessundorma was kind enough to send. As soon as I receive anything, I will let you know. BTW, we will be on Carnival's Freedom.

miki, This is great. Have you looked at the cruise critic message boards. I started one for the April 7 sailing. So far, there are only four of us, but it's early. Please join us.
