Harrogate in June

I will be travelling with my boyfriend to a wedding in Harrogate this June. We are flying in on Thursday morning in to Manchester and leaving on Monday afternoon. We will be staying in Harrogate on Thursday and Friday. We have 2 days/nights to explore the rest of the area and wanted to see what recommendations you had for us. We have the following in mind:

1. Day trip to York and surrounding area on Thursday.
2. Wedding on Friday. Harrogate.
3. Open
4. Open

Is Scotland a possibility? We have been to London many times. Oxford/Bath, etc...We would like to explore the north more or see about Edinburgh. Any thoughts on itinerary/accomodations/renting a car, etc. is much appreciated!

Go to GNER site and see if you can still get reasonable priced train tickets to Edinburgh. no car needed and a beautiful city to be in.

I don't know what your interests are but there is plenty to see in and around Harrogate without going as far as Edinburgh. Here are a few options.

Fountains Abbey
A drive to PateleyBridge and through the North Yorkshire Dales
Bolton Abbey
Studley Royal Gardens
Rievaulx Abbey
Whitby Abbey
Richmond
Ripon Cathedral
Castle Howard (near Scarborough)
Scarborough Castle
Skipton Castle

And, I'm sure I'm leaving out other possibilities.

I don't know where you are arriving from but I would leave York until after the wedding. By the time you have got from the airport to Harrogate you will not want to carry on to York. You will not have very much time to see York, and it deserves a whole day really. There is enough to see and do in Harrogate on the Thursday. And there is so much to see in that general area it would be a shame to try and "do" Edinburgh in two days when you could enjoy the delights of Yorkshire.

sheila: Szan's "this June" is June 2007. The trip/wedding has come and gone . . .

AndrewStephen just topped the thread to advertise his places - he's done the same 4 or 5 times in the last day or so.
