Harrington Hall hotel and London underground

Stayed at Harrington Hall, cannot understand its high rating. Nice hotel, very conveniently located, large roome for a 3-star hotel, but not for 4-star - it just doesn't make it. Another thing that happened to me the first time in Europe - the room was not ready when we arrived, but "we have a superior room available", at 25 pounds more. At the check-out I overheard a conversation: another couple was given the same story.
One word about London underground: the carriages are small and tend to be packed, especially because people stay by the doors. I'm from New York and am not easily intimidated by packed subway, but we were uncomfortable, a couple of times were not able to get in. And try to avoid transfers: too many stations have too many stairs to manage in order to pass from one station to another. Just a word of advise: the tube is safe, fast and convenient.

And was there anything you actually liked about your trip?

I like London in general - that was my 3rd trip there. One of my personal recommendations: Wellington's house, haven't seen it mentioned here. I like the convenience of London underground, but it could be quite packed and it may take some effort to manage all those steps in a transfer.

Maybe the reason you hadn't seen it mentioned here is because it is called Apsley House (not Wellington house). It has been mentioned many times. Agree, Apsley House is terrific.

I am confused as well having stayed at Harrington Hall several times and will be there again next month. I have found the rooms to be very good sized and very nicely appointed-certainly equating to a 4 star property. Sounds like this could have been an early check-in.....

I have to travel to Europe at least 2-3 times a year, naturally arriving in the morning every time. Not once, in practically any country of the continent, I had a problem because of the early check-in. As I mentioned, this offer of an immediately available superior room was made not only to me: I witnessed it at check-out, and now TripAdvisor has the same comment. I booked this hotel because of numerous recommendations - I'm not saying that the hotel is bad, just that IMHO it does not deserve 4-stars. sorry, mostly because of small details like broken for 4 days elevator. This is my opinion, others may disagree. But when I read a comment that the shower at the hotel is better than at home (TripAdvisor again), it makes me wonder.
