Elvira

I wonder if PBS were taking the feed from the BBC. They have just finished more than 24 hours continuous TV coverage of the world-wide millennium celebrations.

Although, of course, Edinburgh was the best it was amazing to see the clever effects at the Eiffel Tower i.e. prepare itself for take-off and almost launching over Paris. Fantastic.

Bill

Athens won my vote for the most beautiful, moving, and millenial of celebrations.

WHAT AN AMAZING DAY OF CELEBRATION!!! I couldn't help crying while watching the beautiful coverage of the Karibati Islands's celebration. The celebration in Paris looked outstanding; the fireworks at Sydney were fabulous.

To all the best of everything; health, peace and prosperity.

Happy New Year! We watched CNN's coverage and wondered why we stayed home. Greece, Rome, Paris, and London took our breath away and we wished we were back there.
Best wishes to all on this forum.

I hope all of you out there had a great New Year's - for us travel addicts the sights from around the world were marvelous. While Paris & London were our favorites we enjoyed seeing them all, they were all fantastic. We went to bed feeling like we had been around the world. TV/communications has certainly brought us all closer together in the last century, in moments of joy, and unfortunately also in moments of sadness. I hope everyone's 2000 travel plans and trips are great ones .. we are off to England in April. Happy New Year everyone!

Here I sit at work to test the system, you know, in case the world ends and the system goes down. Guess what, nothing happened. The coverage of the different cities throughout the world were amazing, my favorite - Paris. But, of course I'm biased. Wish I were there, but to all a Happy and Healthy New Year!!!! And to may all your champagne dreams and caviar wishes come true!!!!!!

I thought the Eiffel Tower display was awesome and the worldwide coverage was wonderful. After seeing our pitiful local TV coverage though, I have more respect for Peter Jennings. Happy 2000.
Anyone know where I can get a copy of a picture of the Eiffel Tower all a-twinkle? Associated Press had a great shot on the cover of the Washington Post today, but it doesn't show up on their website. Probably a copyright thing -- but I just want it for wallpaper for my PC! Happy New Year all. We spent Christmas in Quebec. I've posted a trip report on the Canadian forum...

Happy new year, all! Despite having taken a flu shot, I was sick with very bad flu so just laid on the sofa and watched the millennium turn around the world. That ended up to be a perk of getting sick because it was, as people previously have said, terrific. Poor old Peter Jennings was slightly the worse for wear after midnight in Times Square. Some stamina, 21 hours he'd been on, by the time I crawled into bed.

For my money, Paris was the most beautiful and London the biggest of the celebrations. So glad I have a lot of it on tape. And my goodness the Vatican looked clean. It was amazing! Let's hope we can all get along now that we've all celebrated together.

Delighted to get to ring in on in this thread - - the New Year's arrival in Starlight, Indiana (where I was visiting) was only slightly joyous than "l'arrivée" in Paris.

Happy travels in 2000 to all of you. Diane, I received an e-mail today from Wallpapers.com with their site for 2000 city celebrations. They listed Paris, Rome, NYC and Moscow. I'm sure there are many other cities. Try http://www.wallpapers.com/2000photos.html

Happy New Year everyone!

The London fireworks were AMAZING! I was so glad to be part of the celebrations here. We stood on Primrose Hill with about 2000 other people who had all walked there from their respective parties, as we had. Primrose Hill is a great vantage point overlooking the centre of town. The effect of the synchronised fireworks exploding from each bridge was awesome (we had a view of about 6 bridges) and we actually saw the infamous "River of Fire" (a wall of fireworks travelling up the Thames at the speed of time)- you needed to be a distance away to see it, whereas the people by the river seemed to miss it! The cloud cover was quite low that night, which intensified the fireworks and seemed to create a huge coloured canopy over the river, a spectacular sight from where we were standing.

Apart from London, Paris and Sydney looked the best displays. To have been there and seen the harbour bridge and Eiffel Tower lit up must have been quite an experience.
