Happy Bastille Day to all you Franco-fans!

I hope you all find some time today to celebrate the things you remember and love about France, or that you love and are yet to experience (but will soon!).

So whether it is pain au chocolat, an almond croissant, caffe latte or a glass full of French bubbles (or all!) that is your choice as an aide memoir, I hope you have a wonderful day!

And spare a thought for those 2,000+ anxious, frowning, yelling, horn-honking drivers who are circling the Place de la Bastille to celebrate their freedom!

I've bought a decent bottle of Beaujolais wine and plan to make Chicken Provencale.

I will check with Julia / Jacques for a recipe.

I'm about to start veal with lemon and sage and vegetables.
Thinking a bottle of Beaujolais with it also.

No recipe, just going to wing it! (A sauvignon blanc while I cook will help the creativity1)

Caffe Latte is French?

We're finishing a Bastile Day lunch in Sydney.
Sun has gone, Monet colours of the sky reflected in the ocean. Cheese & red nearly finished, cognac, chocolate & coffee to follow. Just as well we're all locals & the visitors can walk home, or staying here.

We had a 70's themed lunch: coquilles st Jacques, chateaubriand & tarte tatin. This time there was no Cold Duck (? - Aussies will remember) to explode & splatter the regency striped wallpaper! No regency striped wallpaper, either!

It's been such a happy/ funny/ bittersweet/ old friends day.
Anniversary of a wedding, which became the "first date" for another couple who married, divorced & remained friends until one of them died. Birthday of 2nd husband of 1st couple & god daughter of the 2nd couple.

Life, Loves, Laughter. And the stuff that happens in between.

Hello from Paris, where the military jets were flying (loudly) over the apartment this morning. My travel companion and I are going to hop on the hop-on, hop-off bus that circles the Bastille today, so guess we'll run into a bit of traffic! We will probably not get a good viewing spot for the fireworks tonight, as the 6e is one place where you don't have a birds-eye view of the Eiffel Tower.

Beautiful weather! Time to storm the Bastille......

Watching a live interview of Hollande by Claire Chazal and another journalist whose name I forget. Haven't changed my opinion that he's not living in the real world.

On the plus side, looks like a beautiful day as they're sitting in the garden behind the Elysée Palace. BTW, down here in the boondocks you don't hear Happy Bastille Day but le quatorze juillet or (la) Fête
Nationale.

Our "big" village 4 kilometres from us is having a marché nocturne and fireworks tonight.

Sitting up watching the cricket - very exciting - one wicket or 20 runs to go.

Fun plans! I loved spending July 14 in Paris a couple of years ago. My dad is there right now and I am so jealous. We will be back in Paris next year but will be leaving before the 14th due to kid and work schedules.

To those of you in San Diego, the House of France will perform the International Cottages Lawn Program from 2:00 to 3:00 pm today in Balboa Park.

A few years ago I was in Paris for Bastille Day and staying near Place de la Bastille. They didn't even close the McDonald's across the street in commemeration.

It is odd that they have a full military parade up the Champs. What other democracy still has full military parades?

Yes, enjoy the holiday. We are at home in Basel watching the Bastille Day concert being broadcast live from Paris. Magnifique! And what a beautiful day -- the weather couldn't have been more perfect.
