Hallstatt Austria Questions
I'm planning one or two nights in Hallstatt late June 2018. (Will be coming from Munich, and after Hallstatt going on to Graz). On all the booking sites I can't find anything for under €200 a night. I found a few guest houses around €100 that I've emailed but not received any answers. So - does anyone have any suggestions for places to try. Would really like to stay under €125 night (double).
I did see some places that look OK in Obertraun but am wondering if staying there is a good idea. It looks like there is a ferry from there to Hallstatt but can't find any info on how frequent those are. It also looks to be about 1.5 miles from the Hallstatt rail station. Is there a rail station in Obertraun itself? Also is it walkable from Obertraun to Hallstatt?
Thanks

You really want to stay in Hallstatt--it's magical once the day-trippers leave. Maybe stay just one night?
I've stayed here, years ago:

and I passed it ago a couple of weeks ago when I stayed here:
https://www.gruenerbaum.cc
which was certainly nice, but lots pricier.

Thanks for the reply
Grunerer baum is pretty expensive.
I just heard back from Gruner Anger so will probably go with them. Have you heard of them. They do get good reviews on TA
Are there paths that you walk any distance along the lake? I've seen references to 'hiking' but don't see where. Hallstatt does look beautiful (I like your profile pic) but it doesn't seem there much to do other than enjoy being in a beautiful place (which certainly is enough).

Grüner Anger is about a kilometer walk into the center of the village, just FYI. We stayed at Grüner Baum for our overnight in Hallstatt, and it really was worth the cost. After the day crowds had departed it felt as if we had the village all to ourselves. Can you perhaps instead arrange your itinerary to stay one night in Hallstatt at an upgraded location?
There is a panoramic trail above Hallstattersee, and a family wander route at the lake level. https://www.bergwelten.com/t/w/15228
I hope this is helpful.

There is a somewhat steep hike up from the center of town which gets you fantastic views of the lake. Sorry for not being more specific - but we followed a path up from the center of town and it was steep but well worth the views.
If you have time also visit the nearby town/lake of Gosau. There is a cable car there which also lets you off some nice hiking paths

We also splurged for a lake view room at the Grüner Baum... totally worth it. The rooms facing the square get full brunt of the church bell at 6 AM, fyi, whereas we never heard it.
The walk around Gosausee is lovely with (at the time we were there, June 2016) lots of little waterfalls followed up with coffee and strudel at the guest house. A nice memory.
