Guides in Rome
We are traveling with another couple to Rome the end of April and are looking for a private guide to take us around. We want to see the Vatican, Sistine Chapel and the other major attractions without waiting in line. We will be in Rome for 4 days. We would also like the name of the best restaurant with the most fabulous view

Look into tours with www.contextrome.com
They are an outstanding organization. Even their group tours are limited to about 6 people, but I'm sure they could arrange a private guide if you wish. You will still need to arrive early at the Museums, but the guide should be excellent.
This organization has been written about a lot. I haven't taken their tours, but they promise to arrange a no-wait tour.

is another well-known company, but I haven't taken their Vatican tours.

Francesca Caruso that does tours for Rick Steves also does private tours. Do a search for her name on this forum and you will turn up her e-mail and lots of positive reviews. Her rates are very reasonable compared to other guides.

I will second the recommendation for Francesca Caruso. She speaks flawless English, is a lovely person, and made the Forum come alive for us. (We requested a Forum tour; she will guide you anywhere in the city) Her rates are reasonable.
