Dolomites - Better to Stay in Cortina or in La Villa, Alta Badia

We will be in the Dolomites in early May. Since it is between season many places are closed. After a lot of searching we found lodging in Cortina at Hotel Oasi Cortina and now thanks to pja1 we found another open hotel, Ciasa Montanara in La Villa, Alta Badia. We will be arriving from Udine area and staying 3-4 days in the Dolomites. Any thoughts on which might be a better location to base ourselves in? Thanks

YT - La Villa is much smaller than Cortina, of course. I usually prefer to base in Val Gardena or Val Badia (- rather than Cortina) - as I find them more central for touring.

La Villa-in-Badia and Cortina are only 45 mins apart - so I'd choose whichever hotel suites you best.

May will be relatively quiet wherever you choose to stay.

Thanks again, SJ. I looked for places to stay in those villages and struck out finding places open during our days there. I'm sure there are some, but after looking at many places an no luck, I moved on.

We expect it to be quiet -- really want to see the scenery driving and if possible get in some hiking and that's about it.

I would highly recommend the Hotel Uhrerhof Deur which overlooks Ortisei, if your hotel plans are still flexible. A little slice of heaven.
