Guided Tours

I will be heading to London in April. I want to take a day-tour of someplace outside of the city. Any suggestions?

Evan Evans Co. operates sightseeing tours which depart from Victoria Coach Station. I believe they have a web site. Also, National Express busses may also do these tours. Another option would be to take a rail-trip. I took a day-return trip to Ely last May, from London, to meet my cousin who came from her home in York. The trip was about an hour. I believe that you can find info about trips of this type on a BritRail web site.

For coach trips, see:-

www.evanevans.co.uk
www.grayline.com
www.goldentours.co.uk
www.visitorsightseeing.co.uk

Dozens of options there to help you start planning... - even if you prefer to travel independantly.

My suggestion would be a day in Bath (about 80 minutes by train).

My suggestion is not to go. From the sounds of it...you're a loser. You should just stay in the hotel the whole time.

I suggest finding a combination trip that takes you to multiple destinations.
My son took one that he thought was incredible. It went to Salisbury, Stonehenge, and Bath. I do not recall who the tour operator was, but he got his money's worth.
Then there is a trip to Dover and Canterbury.
And Oxford and Cambridge are interesting destinations.
Hampton Court,if you consider that to be out of the city, is a worthy destination as is Windsor Castle. The right tour will take you to both in one day.
I took one to Warwick Castle and Stratford. Shakespeare's house is a little touristy, but the tour took us by several interesting sites, such as Banbury and the little church that was the inspiration for Grey's Elegy.

And pay no attention to the above poster. I think it must be the after effects of tee many martoonies.

try

www.walks.com

they have great little day tours lined up.

I have used them many times for their London walks, but have not gone on a day trip. I plan to soon though.

MRA,

Check out Evan Evans Tours. We took a day trip to Leeds Castle, Canterbury, and Dover. While we certainly wish we could have spent more time at each stop, we felt the tour was worth the price. We were very satisfied with our guide and the trip overall. Safe journeys.

My wife and I were in London in March of '99' and took several day-tours with Visitors Sightseeing. We liked all of them, especially since mid March is not that crowded.

I would especially recommend the Leeds-Cantebury-Dover trip. For a one day trip, it was exceptional.
The other trips we took was the one day tour of London (fair), the 1/2 day trip to Windsor (fair but pricey for what you get) and as a splurge, the one day trip to Paris via the Eurostar. The trip to Paris was pricey but well worth it.

Bye the way, one company to avoid is Astral Travels. We had a very poor experience with their service.
