Guided tour of Verdun battlefields

carolynk, if your mother's cousin was buried in Europe, you should be able to find his grave location at the Battle Monuments website:
http://www.abmc.gov/search/wwi.php
If you know the cemetery, you can research which battlefield's casualties were buried there.

Carolynk,
I noticed on Amazon that there is now a Verdun edition in the "Battlefield Europe" series of guidebooks from Pen and Sword in the UK. I have used these on many European battlefields and they are always excellent. Good directions and the right amount of detail. This one is called _Walking Verdun_, so if you are staying in the area this would be good.
I also second the earlier poster's recommendation to travel to the Meuse-Argonne battlefields. If you have time, Belleau Wood is also worth a side trip (about 45 minutes west of Reims).
For a guided tour, I cannot recommend Bartlett's Battlefield Journeys strongly enough. They are a small UK-based company that does tours all over Europe, focused on WWI. I took a Western Front tour with them last year and it was incredible. Their website is http://www.battlefields.co.uk/. They don't appear to have a Verdun-area tour scheduled in May 2010, but they do customized itineraries.
Make sure you carve out time for a visit to the Moet caves in Epernay too.
