GTG during Fallas in Valencia, Spain

When: Two dates. March 16th. March 17th 12.30pm and maybe the 18th and/or 19th, too.

Where: Plaza Ayuntamiento at the Hotel Melia Plaza lobby.. grab seats on the sofas if available.

We will listen to the Mascletá at 2 pm ( walking outside the front door for PERFECT, safe location) then continue to lunch reserved somewhere nearby.

Post if you think you can come and if you want to go for lunch. Most menus where we can reserve will be around 20E - 25E or so.

Hope to see some of you!

great! Remember the 62 bus is the one for the central market and the 63 for the train station but that one sometimes during fallas stops because the uni kids are on break and don't use it.

You do have a metro stop a couple blocks along the main road but it will be packed during fallas unless you go in early.

Anyone else going to be in town?

If you want to write me at my screen name at yahoo dot com, I can ask for you at the hotel in case i am going in early that day and would be happy to show you some fallas that are hard to get to on public transportation.

Also I booked bus tickets at Avanzabus already, so I only need to worry how to go from the bus terminal/station to the Sorolla. The Bus arrives at 1:05 pm to Valencia.

Is there any bus going from Valencia to Barcelona?. I tried with Avanzabus, but they don't have it from Valencia.

If anyone knows please let me know. Thanks.

bus to barcelona is with alsa. www.alsa.es or .com

I would just grab a taxi on your way in.. as it isn't horribly far.but too far to walk with luggage. will cost under 10 euros. Make sure he knows it is the Sorolla PALACE, next to the Palacio de Congresos as there is another Sorolla hotel downtown.

I'm flying on from the states that morning or I would try to meet you.

If you are famished when you get off the bus, you can walk outside to your RIGHT, and there is a big corte inglés down half a block with a café upstairs.

If you catch a taxi further away from the bus station .. you will not have not pay the station supplement.. but do walk a block away. However, if you have clumsy luggage just catch it there.

The 15th is the first night of the fabulous fireworks. It is at midnight along the riverbed.. huge crowds. The following nights they are at 1 a.m.

Thanks Lincasanova. Good advises and helpful. I am almost done with reservations. Are you booking at the Sorolla Palace too? When I booked through expedia I got a little better rate with a MC application($50 bonus) so I took it. The address of the hotel is the same but the name in expedia is Sercotel Sorolla Palace, Valencians 58.

Ok, will coordinate via email before Mar 15.

I'll be out of touch for awhile but we will connect later.

That hotel may have just be bought by another group. There have been alot of hotel sales/leasing going on in Valencia

I hope we will have even more people at the GTG. Sign up if you will be in town.

I promise this is a good place to hear the mascletá from. You will not be disappointed. Then you need not come to lunch if you do not want to. But be warned it is almost impossible to get food for an hour or more after the mascletá ( if you don't have reservations somewhere) due to the immense saturation downtown in the bars and restaurants.

March 16th 12.30 is on. I hope to see whoever reads this and is in town at the Melia Plaza hotel right in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento at the end furthest from the train station. Grab a sofa and try to save a place..all the tables will most likely be taken.

I was able to meet up with alsolo and his lovely daughter. After the deafening Mascletá, we walked to the impressive Falla at El Pilar and later parted ways.

I hope the rest of their short stay is pleasant. Nice meeting you, alsolo!

It was a pleasure to meet Lin, we really appreciated her kind hospitality during our visit to Valencia. The hotel that Lin recommended was the best of our trip including Barcelona and Madrid. Thank you again. We would like to visit the south in the future. Will see.
