My extended family (8 adults 3 children) will be visiting Venice at the end of June for 2 nights and are looking for a reasonably priced place to stay. Don't need much, but it does need to be clean. Any recommendations?

You can use www.venere.com. Enter the dates, the number of rooms and people, the price range and see what comes up. Try both hotels and B&Bs.

P.S. I've stayed in dozens of places throughout Italy. They were all clean.

I have checked on Venere but the prices are much to high as I would need about 3 places. I was looking for other suggestions.

We have no idea what your idea of "much too high" is. Can you tell us what you are wiling to spend and how many rooms you will need (for example, 3 rooms for 3, 1 room for 2)? We can continue to make suggestions, but they may all be wrong for you.

For 4 people I was trying to stay around 130 euro/night. Maybe that is just not realistic. Maybe I just need to stay outside of Venice to get that. I thought I would check with the experts here to see if they knew of something. I was hoping that maybe an apartment might work as well but not sure if they will let me stay just 2 nights.

If you look at venere.com they do have some places with rooms for 4 within your budget at the end of June. You may have to stay on the Lido (20 minute boat from San Marco) - as long as you can live with the bed configurations.

You need to figure out how many rooms with what type of bed configurations. And be aware than smaller hotels may have only 1 or 2 rooms for 4 people.

you need institutional lodging for that many people....there are many nice convents in Venice (and throughout Italy for that matter) that would be suitable for your family---here is one suggestion-

this one for the Salesian Sisters is in the Dorsoduro quarter of Venice away from the tourist traffic and full of wonderful churches with Tiepolo and Tintoretto frescoes....
it has single and double rooms + breakfast...you could probably fill up the whole place at a very reasonable rate ....I have stayed at these kinds of places and they are always spotless and very hospitable and welcoming because that is how they earn their income...you will be pleasantly suprised! With the money you save take the whole family to Gelateria Nico on the Zattere and buy cones for everybody!

You can definitely save money by staying at a hotel in Mestre, which is on the mainland. There are buses which run every 15 mins or so from Mestre across the bridge to Piazzale Roma in Venice, from where you can catch a Vaporetto to anywhere. The bus trip takes only about 10-15 mins and buses run all day and late into the night. You can buy tickets at any Tabbachi or sometimes even from the hotel conscierge. I won't pretend that Mestre has the same romantic atmosphere as staying in Venice itself, but if you don't plan to spend much time in your room and are happy to take a short bus ride each day, then it might be worth your consideration. You could try Hotel Alexander in Via Forte Marghera, it's just a few streets back from the bus stop and very comfortable. It's also a good option if you have a car with you, as they have free parking.
