grindelwald rentals

Does anyone have info on a way to find a 3 - 5 star small single house rental in the Swiss Alps, preferably in the Berner Oberland region, but will consider elsewhere in the Alps. Many thanks.

The Grindelwald Tourist Office is quite active and will be happy to send you a brochure of vacation rentals. It is a major international tourist destination.
Go to Yahoo and enter in Grindelwald.
The web page "hot spot" soon pops up.
I am not sure that you will find a lot of single houses, but there are many
Ferienwohnungen (vacation apartments).
If you can, negotiate directly with the owner rather than going through the tourist office. I found that the tourist office tends to impose Saturday to Saturday occupancy rules. Of course, a lot of this depends on when you want to go and how high the occupancy rate is.

I rented in Lauterbrunnen, which is a lot smaller. I went in September after the August push and was able to start on a Friday rather than a Saturday. I negotiated with the owner of the building. I happened to located by accident a person who spoke English like a native Englander (which she was). But many of the people can speak English, particularly around Grindelwald. Or they can find someone who does.

Kandersteg has many rentals as well.

When I was there last (3 years ago), my family rented the top floor of a chalet owned by a wonderful Swiss family. We had two bedrooms, living room with fold-out couch and dining table, bathroom with a washer and a full kitchen. Last time my father was there he paid something absurd like $35 a night. They lived in Brienz, right outside of Interlaken. There is a train station in town but not much out so you will want a car. Let me know if you would like their number.
