Greek Isles--Which to visit?

I'm thinking about taking a trip to Green Isles with my sister. She hates cruises so we are looking at a land trip. We would probably like to be in Greece 10 days and stay on 3 different islands/ We don't care about lots of activity and nightlife. It would probably be in September. But no group tours, please. Can anyone recommend which islands we should visit? Which are prettiest and easiest to access? I know about Santorini as I've been there on a cruise stop.

You girls hate cruises, lots of activities, group tours, and nighlife. What do you like?

Go to Crete.

You "are looking at a land trip" but want to stay on three different islands in 10 days? That would involve four ferry/plane rides, with much of the day taken up checking in and out of hotels, waiting at terminals, etc. Will you be spending a day or two in Athens as part of that 10 days?

Why not fly from Athens to Crete, and spend the whole time there?

Its like saying I want a beach holiday but I don't like sand ????

Just spend your ten days on the mainland, get down to Naflion.

It's fun to see how some of you like to work people over a little before you dispense with your advice.

Try Mykonos, Santorini and Naxos or Paros. If you pick islands with good connections, 3 nights on each island isn't too much.

If you want something very different from the stereotypic Greek island experience, try Corfu. I've been to other Greek islands but I keep going back to Corfu.

>>Try Mykonos, Santorini and Naxos or Paros.<<

Yes, those islands have good connections with each other, but is that really good advice? If Sueswny and her sister spend at least one night in Athens, that would actually be four destinations in ten days.

Each time you move from one location to another, with packing, checking in and out of hotels, waiting to board your flight or ferry, and the transit time itself, you have used up the better part of a day. It is tempting to try to see as much as possible, but for a short trip it is better to limit yourself to fewer destinations.

Viajero2 and I independently came to the same conclusion - go to Crete. I didn't see his post until after I sent mine. If not Crete, then two of the above islands would be a good choice. If Santorini is your first or last destination, a flight between there and Athens would save some time.

As sshephard says, if you've already been to Santorini and want to try something completely different, why not look at Corfu?

It's very, very pretty and not as difficult to access from Athens as some people would have you believe. Aegean do 2 flights a day that take an hour and start at €10 + taxes.

If you want to visit other islands, you can use Airsealines' seaplane to hop over to Paxos, Ithaki, Lefkas or Kefalonia for a few days.
