Greek Isle help!!!!
My husband and I (28) are going to Greece end of May 8 days. We like GREAT beaches, crowded or not, for swimming and snorkling. A town with good restaurants (outside), history,& nightlife (not too clubby). We have had lots of people say to check out Corfu, but what else? We don't want to drive at night, or at all. So staying in the hot spot of town is what we want. Any suggestions ?
Have you thought about Crete? We have stayed in Stalis, which has great beaches and tavernas but is also inbetween Malia and Hersonnisis. We liked Stalis as it had plenty to do without a hectic nightlife. However we could walk(albeit it a half hour) into Malia or take a taxi(10 minutes) into Hersonnisis and have as hectic a nightlife as you could want!! Malia has a good beach(but can be crowded); I don't think Hersonnisis has but I may be wrong. Plenty historical sites to see. End of May would be perfect. We went in July and it was too hot for site seeing( a lot of the time it was above 90 degrees)
Haven't been to Corfu so can't comment on it.

Hi Elle!
I love Corfu! If you stay in the town itself you are not near good swimming beaches.
However, these can be reached by taking the local buses or (they are very reasonably priced) and the taxi drivers will know where the best beaches are.
Good beaches can also be reached by boat from the port in Corfu, the boatman will drop you off and pick you up again at a pre-arranged time. This is the best way to find secluded beaches.
In my opinion, the best part of Corfu is the north-east coast,Kalami, Kalouri and Agios Stephanos area.
After your day out you can return to Corfu town where there is a large choice of restaurants, tavernas, nightlife and lot of places to do people watching. The area around the Liston is very good for this.
Have just noticed the date of your posting!
Where did you go and did you enjoy it?
Regards
Maggie.

Hi Elle,
The Corfu Palace Hotel has air-conditioning and is in a superb location - just a ten minute stroll along the sea front to the centre of the old town.
You can check it out on www.corfupalace.com and you will find others if you go into Google and enter Corfu Hotels - not too many with air-conditioning though.
Hope this helps.
Regards
Maggie
