Greek hotels

I hope to be in Athens Greece late 2001. I would not only like a comfortable hotel, but one with the best photographic view of the Acropolis and the Parthanon. I have chosen either the Palaka or the Herodian hotels. what do you recomend?

The view from the Electra Palace couldn't be beat as far as I am aware. And the hotel is an excellent hotel with reasonable rates. I can't think of a single reason not to stay there unless you're looking for really cheap places.

I,m not concerned about the cost so much as the best view, I,m a serious photographer and consider this trip a once in a life time chance. Thanks patrick for your info.

If you meant the Plaka Hotel, I would say the view from it is fine which doesn't strike me as nearly as good as Patrick's recommendation. If I were going to Athens today, I would plan to stay at the Electra Palace. The Plaka was a bit of a dump although someone said it has been renovated. Staff was unimpressive though.

If you want close up pictures of the Parthenon etc., without a lot of people walking in front of your lens, get up there right at opening time. It gets crowded quickly.

I would strongly recommend the Acropolis View Hotel which has a wonderful roof terrace that overlooks the Acropolis. The light shows at night were spellbinding. The rooms were tight but did not private baths and the staff was very friendly. Breakfast was great.
Second the above, for slightly more then $40.00 per night for 2 people we had a really outstanding view of the Acropolis that dominated our window. Nice staff, and decent decor, very clean. I recommend it.

Just to clarify my last post...(Monday morning what can you say?) I was referring to the Acropolis View hotel.

I meant to say that although the rooms are tight at the Acropolis View hotel, they do have private bathrooms.
