Greece - Special products to buy while there?

Hi everyone.

Any favorite products you must buy when travelling to Greece? Brand names, suggestions, and where to buy would be most helpful and appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Ross.

No brands, just street market stuff: Olives, olive oil, Ouzo, hand painted plates, cotton clothing, kitchen towels.

Silver (or gold) jewelry, flokati rugs, handmade pottery, woolen fisherman's sweaters.

Pastelli, pistachios, honey (with or without fruits or nuts preserved in it), Metaxa brandy and yes, ouzo. Get them all from any supermarket.

Thanks.

I think most of the bigger Greek supermarkets accept credit cards. That's speaking relatively, because even tiny corner shops call themselves supermarkets in Greece

Visa seems to be the most widely acccepted ime.

I used my VISA card all over Greece, but found that I could get better prices (especially with jewelry) if I paid by cash (local currency) or traveller check (USD). I opted for the cash payment & got great deals on the gold & silver items purchased. Buy LOTS of Olive Oil soap. It's wonderful, cheap, sold all over the place, packaged attractively and sells for 7 times more in the New England area! Don't bother with the natural sea sponges you see everywhere, mine fell apart after only a few uses. Enjoy this wonderful area!
