Greece-Nafplion & Corinth
After finishing up a cruise, we will be at the Athens port at 9 a.m. on May 12th. What is the best way to get to Nafplion (ferry, bus, or train) and how long should it take? What is the best way to use public transport and tour Nafplion, ancient Corinth, and Mycanea? Your thoughts are deeply appreciated!

I think I;ve posted to u before-- are you the person going on an EasyCruise?
I LOOOVE nafplio & you will too. By public transport, simplest is the bus. A taxi to bus station A costs about 12E and takes 25 minutes or so. Busses for Nafplio leave hourly on half-hour and cost 11.5Euro. The ride takes 2.5 hours--sit on Left-hand side to enjoy view of Saronic bay enroute. Busses are comfy intercity style w. reserved seats & a/c.
There are busses every 2-3 hrs to Mycenae, ditto to Epidaurus. OR you could rent a car cheaply for a day and see both, plus Nemea -- which is 2nd only to Olympia as ancient site of Games.
As for Corinth, why double back to Nafplio?? Waste of time. Look at map. When u are going back to Athens, buy bus ticket to Modern Corinth. Stow baggage at bus station (or a nearby hotel or travel agency; offer a few euro to do so), and get taxi to ancient site & back.
Have a great trip!!

I am not a fan of bus travel. If you can drive a shift shift then you may want to consider heading back to Athens airport and renting a car. We have used Ace rent a car three times and had good service and competitive prices. Fromn the airport you do not have to drive in Athens and for the most part it is basically freeway driving.
On the way to Naphlion you can visit the Corinth Canal, ancient Corinth, Ancient Nemia ( a rival games site to Olympia) and Mycene all in a day.
Here are our pictures of this trip to help you decide.

Once again, WOW! Love the information. Thanks a bunch! I'm checking out the link for the pictures. Yes, we are the ones going on the EasyCruise (the boat docks at Athens on Monday at 9 a.m.). I'm trying to get a link on bus schedules. Does anyone have one?
Thanks and MERRY CHRISTMAS!

ktel.org, but the English language section doesn't work any more - I think they had trouble with hackers and took it down. If you click around enough on the Greek pages you'll turn up something that looks like it will give you timetables, but you have to spell the towns correctly (i.e. Athina not Athens), and I'm not sure how to do that for Naplion. Guidebooks from Lonely Planet or Rough Guide may have some schedule info.

Michael -- I told you in my first posting that busses to Nafplio leave HOURLY on the HALF-HOUR and take 2.5 hours.
Coming BACK from NAfplio, they leave hourly (approximately) on the HOUR.
There is a bus schedule on the athensguide website here's the link:
http://www.athensguide.com/practical...schedulesA.htm
The times may not be totally up-to-date, but they won't be far off; Ive been taking the Nafplio bus 4 times from '99 to 07 and it hasn't changed at all. BTW, I think the reason stated for KTEL not posting times is that "commercial sites have been using our timetables for profit". (i.e., Athensguide, which has adv. on its website)
So therefore the govt bus co. is cutting off its nose to spite its face-- if people can't get schedules they won't use the bus!! Lost riders. How stupid!
BTW, as Steves' website says, there's no simple busride from Plaka area to Bus Terminal; taxi should be about 10-11E.
