Greece Itinerary

Hi Folks,
My husband and I are just starting to plan a trip to Greece for April of 07.
I'm thinking of staying 3 nights on Santorini,4 nights on Crete and the last two in Athens.
Does that sound doable?
I figure we'll probably have to fly in between places as the ferries may not be working yet?
Thanks for your help.
Betty

I can say that 3 nights is probably enough on Santorini and two nights in Athens is ok too (as long as you have 2 full days there to see the sights). I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed Athens. As for 4 nights in Crete, I'm sure that's not sufficient to see a lot of the island, but if it's all you have, then you should be fine.

Ferry schedules (particularly the fast ferries) are reduced in the off-season, so flying is probably the best way to go, but the flights are also reduced. But if you book way ahead on Aegean Airlines, you can often get the 19 euro fares, which work out to about 40 to 50 euros once taxes are added. It's almost as cheap as the ferry. Not so if you have to book on Olympic and pay $120 per flight. Still, you can probably take a ferry between Santorini and Crete, even if it's a slow one.

Thanks Doug!
Any idea how long the slow ferry between Santorini and Crete takes?

Hi Betty

For ferry schedules have you seen this site - www.gtp.gr. For air flights go to Olympic Air or Aegean Air websites. Aegean Air gets plenty of good raves in this forum.

Cheers

I believe the fast ferry from Santorini to Crete takes about 2 hours, and the slow ferry is usually about double, so figure about 4 hours. You should doublecheck with the ferry company, though. It's not a horribly long trip.
