kja: My response was a general response not specific to you. I am also an experienced traveler and just wanted to let people know no matter how good your time frame is or how much time to devote to something it often times gets thrown off by what you are experiencing. Before long your itinerary and/or schedule changes and just wanted to let travelers know that sometimes you just have to go with the flow.
Yes, it's good to have a backup plan so you can change in case things change.
I've been to Athens numerous times and still find new areas/sites to explore in addition to our favorites.
As you said to each their own. We all have different ideas of what we want in our travel experience. Not everyone agrees but that's why a forum like this is important. Experienced travelers can give tips or suggestions that may help determine what one does and sees.
