Greece - Cruise or Ferries?

Hi,

My husband and I are are planning a September-October trip in Greece and are hesitating between doing island hopping by ferry or go on a mini cruise.

This will be our fist time in Greece and we want to see as much as possible - We want to overview the different islands

Is it cheaper to go on a cruise or use ferries and stay in hotels?

Anyone can give us feedback on their own experience would be great!

Thanks

Ferries will be much cheaper and you will have no problem with crowds at that time of year. You will also have more flexibility with how long you stay in each place, so I would opt for ferries over a mini cruise.

Thanks Carolina,

Sounds good, we'll use the ferries

You will definitely have more time traveling by ferry. The key to traveling that way is understanding that the ferries only travel to certain chains or groups of islands, and you may need to fly to another island to avoid a long trip back to Piraeus. Also, the ferry service may not be daily, so verify your hotel booking for the proper nights.

Thanks lostinplace, I am trying to decide which islands to visit according to the ferry schedule. Not an easy task. I am going to concentrate in the Cyclades though.

Santorini, Naxos and Mykonos are must see islands but I also wanted to go to Milos because the beaches, the turquoise water and the rocks look so nice but I can only see 3 ferries per week going there (I'll be in the area between September 28th and October 5th).

Any other islands similar to Milos you can suggest?

I enjoyed Paros more than Naxos, but both are easy enough to do on that route. You can also easily see Hydra as a day trip from Athens. I wanted to see Sifnos, but couldn't make it work with the ferry schedule.
