Ferries Within Greece

My friends and I are leaving for a three week excursion to Greece in mid-June. I have been researching ferries and airfare within Greece extensively, as we are going to be island hopping in the Cyclades.

I was curious if it is recommended to book online in advance or if it is possible to simply purchase the tickets while on the island in Greece. I have heard many ferries are subject to change as far as times of departure/arrival go and wouldn't want to purchase a ticket without knowing there would be a ferry to pick us up!

If anyone has any knowledge or first-hand experience on this subject I would love your insight and opinions!

Thanks a ton!

It is very easy to just purchase your ferry tickets as you go. The ferries won't be full in June. Once schedules are decided upon the ferry companies try to keep to them, but occasionally you will experience a last-minute change. What's more common are delays caused by mechanical problems or heavy seas, which can't be predicted.

Once the new season's schedules are posted you can view them on www.openseas.gr and www.gtp.gr.

I agree, no need to book in advance for June, except for a long ferry trip where you require a cabin.

Would the dame be true for September? I mean, no need to book in advance?

Oh excellent, that will be less stressful no doubt!

Are there any kind of passes (similiar to the idea of the eurorail passes) that are available for the ferry system in Greece by chance?

Or am I dreamin'?

Yes, the same applies to September.

No, there are no ferry passes. If you so choose you can purchase tickets in advance for a particular date, but all tickets are sold "point-to-point."
