Greece

Trying to plan a trip to Greece and think I would like to rent a small house (4 adults)for a base and just wander around for about 10 days. Not sure how to go about it. Would like to see some historical areas but mostly would love to get into the "real" Greece and the people.......

Any one with suggestions?

You might get a better response if you re-post with a subject like "Greece house rental." I have not rented a house there so cannot make recommendations, but I know there are plenty of websites to check out and some are mentioned elsewhere on this forum. As for a place to start...have you considered a week in the Peleponnese region? Search for that or "Naphlion" or "Naphflio" (a very enjoyable little city to visit) on this forum and you will get some travel ideas for that part of Greece. Of course there are many posts about the islands as well.

You might also offer some ideas as to where you're thinking of doing this so the recommendations are more to the point.

I'm planning a trip for 9 people this September. The following Villa was highly recommended to me. Looks nice on the website. If anyone knows of it I'd be interested in their comments. Also, is mid-September noticeably quieter than summer?

Nafplio is a lovely seaside town for a 7-10 day basecamp, BUT note the charming, pretty town most of us dream of, is mainly limited to the small "old town" section.

The _modern_ Nafplio is nothing special, but at least retains its proximity to the Old Town and the rest of the Argolid. There are some nice seaside towns just south of Nafplion (eg, Tolo) but that might add 20 minutes of driving time back to Nafplio.

From Nafplio, there are quite a few sites that can be visited as long daytrips (Mistras, Olympia, Dimitsena, Paralio Astros, Leonidio, etc) as well as the short trips (Mycenae, Epidavros, Tiryns, etc).
