Greece: 3 Day sidetrip needed......

We are planning a trip to Greece next Spring. I have been many times before but we are trying to venture into areas that we want to re-explore or have not been before. This almost 3 week trip includes Athens, Crete, Hydra.

We were going to stop in Paris on the way but it is so expensive to stay, eat, and resume the trip that now we are thinking of just flying straight through and pick up some other Greek sidetrip to fill the time. Perhaps another island ( we have done Santorini) or someplace not too far from Athens(we have spents weeks in the Peloponeese and Delphi) that would give us another 3 day "chapter" to this adventure.

Any suggestions? Thanks

Have you been to Meteora? If not, that is a realy fantastic place to visit for a few days.

You could take the train, or a bus. It didn't take me anything like 5 hours on the train. I was going to suggest going north, even beyond Meteora.

IF you like hikes, the island of Kea (Tzia) is oddly untouristed, and is criss-crossed by flagstoned paths, that until modern times were the only links between villages ... it would be a very different experience for 3 days. Not glam, no clubs, but very greek.
