Here's a link to the New York Times review of the book:

I've read other books by Kanon; they're mysteries of a kind and very well written.

Yes, Tiff, it is a well-written mystery. It takes place in Venice and, if you have been there, mentions many faimiliar places. On annother subject (but still Venice) saw picture in paper showing a foot of water in St. Mark's Square!

I will have to look for that book. For those of you who love Italy, John Grisham`s "The Broker" just came out as a paperback and is number one on the bestselling list. I`ts not so much that I liked the spy story, it was the wonderful discriptions of Italy, especially bolongna. I have been drooling for a panini since I read that book. John Grisham loves Italy. I just finished John Berendt`s "City of the falling angels" (venice) which made me realize how much I didn`t know about Venice. Of course Marlena De Blasi`s book, "a thousand days in Venice" will really put you in the mood too, but It`s more of a woman`s book. Gosh, I miss Italy!

And if you're seeking other books that are set in Italy, Dog Mother's thread "Essential Reading List - Great Books About or Set in Italy" found at http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34410488
is a quite comprehensive list.
