"A journey is like marriage. The certain way to be wrong is to think you control it." John Steinbeck.
Which is close enough to my favorite non-travel quote (by George Carlin, I think): "If you think there's a solution, you're part of the problem."
Thanks, JandaO for topping this thread.

Just get on any major highway, and eventually it will dead-end in a Disney parking area large enough to have its own climate, populated by large nomadic families who have been trying to find their cars since the Carter administration. ~Dave Barry

Alice asked the Chesire Cat, who was sitting in a tree, "What road do I take?"
The cat asked, "Where do you want to go?"
"I don't know", Alice answered.
"Then," said the cat, "it really doesn't matter, does it?"

Just a few from the many in Tony Perrottet's informative and entertaining
<i>Route 66AD; On the Trail of Ancient Roman Tourists</i> -
"Jupiter, protect me from your guides at Olympia, and you, Athena, from yours at Athens!" - Varro
"Many of us endure all sorts of hardships to behold some remote sight. For Nature made us born admirers; her jewels would be lost without an audience." - Seneca
"Even the Gods don't spend all their time in Heaven. They take journeys to Aethiopia, to Olympia, to Mount Athos..." - the pagan prophet Apollonius of Tyana
"If you're clean and neat, then here's a house ready and waiting for you. If you're dirty - well, I'm ashamed to say it, but you're welcome too." - plaque from excavated Roman inn in Spain

From Moab to Monemvasia,
and all points in between,
In crowded cities, lonely trails and
humble villages set in green,
I hear the echoes of my own sweet home
in every place I've been.
And I catch a glimpse of my truer self
in every stranger's face I've seen.

And... "You know, you speak English really well!" - North American native English speaker to Australian native English speaker on a train in northern Sweden.
[He's still learning, but at least he can spell 'accommodation' and doesn't routinely insert an apostrophe in the possessive 'its', even if he drops the occasional letter typing.]

I coined this on this forum when I was still in 70's...now that I'm 80, with every ache and pain it seems to take on more meaning. At times, I wish I never came up with it...but it ain't a bad motto for all of us bitten by the peripatetic travel bug:
<b>"travel 'til you unravel !"</b>
stu tower
...and as the Deadheads said..<i>"Keep on truckin'"</i>
