Hi,

Does anyone know of and/or stayed at a great castle or hotel with a few haunting claims about it?

Not over the top scary, but we're looking for a great place to stay for a short trip of 4 to 5 days within driving distance of Shannon, Dublin or Glasgow.

Glamis castle in Scotland is the spooky place par excellence in Scotland; but you can't stay there unless you're a pal of the Strathmores.

I'm told that Castle Stuart has a ghost.

It's suppose to date back to the 15th century, so it may well have several.

The Mansfield Castle hotel in Tain is a modern Victorian castle, but looks the part.

It is supposed to have the ghost of a former owner, a rather nice old lady.

Castle Leslie in County Monaghan. Authentic, old, and there is a ghost story connected to it.
There's a bit about it in the DVD Ghost Hunters. We very much enjoyed our night there. Food was wonderful, and the rooms were, well, different.

I don't know of a specific Castle, but in the discovery channel, I saw one episode they showed that in Scotland is the place to go to look for these things.!

Cameron House at Loch Lomond once had a pale spooky guest who was never seen in the public rooms.

He finally signed the bill with the name Michael Jackson.

Dollar Castle (Castle Gloom) is a ruin but has great atmosphere and the walk to it is a delight - only to be attempted in daylight! You have been warned.

Ashford Castle was amazing. It's in Cong -- NW Ireland. There's supposed to be a ghost -- actually, in the room next to the one we stayed in. But the only thing I found scary was the price

Stevelyon: Do you mean Castle Campbell (not <i>Dollar</i> Castle)? It is in Dollar Glen and is definitely a place to see.

I think Dunnottar Castle would be close to the top of the list . . . . .

Oh - meant to add - all of the places I mentioned are closer to Edinburgh than to Glasgow (but you can fly from Dublin to Edinburgh)

Cute and thanks for the suggestions! We are likely to fly in to Glasgow or Edinburgh, as it turns out. -Easier to use our frequent flier miles to those!
