Great Bunratty B&B

If you're flying into Shannon during your tour of Ireland, don't miss the opportunity (& convenience) to stay with Sheila and Frank Tiernan @ the Ashgrove House!

You will be greeted with a warm smile & open arms! (Be sure to park in the back or have your taxi driver drop you in the back). Rooms and restrooms are "en suite" and clean (one exception), several room sizes to accommodate your party, a wonderful breakfast, complete with tasty scones!

You are 1 mile (approx) from the Bunratty Castle & a Medieval dinner worth the wait & the price ... Famous Durty Nelly's pub is across from the castle, as well as The Creamery Pub & a cute little shopping area.

A quick drive from the Shannon airport in Bunratty, contact Sheila or Frank by Tel: 061 369332 OR [email protected]. To view more details about this B&B, see: http://www.ashgrovehouse.com.

Thank you I have booked a night with them in January. There is such a difference in opinion if Bunratty Castle is worth it. So thanks for the heads up. Patti

We also stayed at Ashgrove House this year in October. It was a wonderful stay. Re: Bunratty Castle-we attended the medieval dinner and had a great time. Yes, it is "touristy", but the castle is ineteresting and we enjoyed looking at the different tyoes of homes that the Irish have lived in over the years. The on-site Pub was fun also.

FYI, There are 4 pages about this posting by AZTraveler on the Trip Advisor forums wondering if this post is bogus. More of the same on Frommers.

I confirmed all my Ireland reservations a few weeks before my trip last July. It was very disappointing when I received an email from Sheila that they had mistakely thought I had canceled my reservations (that I made 5 or 6 months before) and booked the 2 rooms I had reserved to others. She did find me another B&B, but it wasn't one I'd go back to. Needless to say, I was very upset after doing so much research to find the "right" place. Be sure to confirm or you may be unpleasantly surprised.

It can be very interesting to look at trails of trip advisor reviews, though of course tough to know exactly what is up with them.

I know Ashgrove House has gotten rave reviews on some forums. To be honest, what turned me off was their FAQ on tipping. According to their website, it's customary to tip B&B proprietors, and to tip bartenders and waitresses 15%. Know other site I have looked at has this same take on what is customary for tipping in Ireland.
