Granada - the AC Santa Paula or Hotel Casa Morisca?
Picking up from ekscrunchy's Granada hotel post . . . We are a family of 4, with two kids (ages 8 and 10). I ruled out the Parador and am now trying to choose between the AC and Casa Morisca. We would have a suite w/ connecting room for the boys at the AC (total about 275 euros) or the Mirador room with another double room at Casa Morisca (about the same price). I'm sort of inclined to stay at Casa Morisca because the AC looks a lot like a W hotel while CM seems more authentic, but I could be persuaded otherwise. Any thoughts?

Have you looked at Tripadvisor?
Casa Morisca is well over 500 years old and was converted from a (very large) house into a hotel. It is small (I don't recall exactly, maybe 12-15 rooms?).
AC Palacio de Santa Paula is larger, has 75 rooms, and a small portion of those are in an old converted convent - the remaining rooms are in a modern building. I would imagine the rooms in the old building have a more authentic feel.
Both hotels have interior courtyards - as do many, many buildings in Grenada.
Hope this helps..

I have looked at Tripadvisor and, despite their differences, both hotels get mostly excellent reviews. I know they are very different and I'm just really on the fence about which one to choose. Also, I should have mentioned, that to have connecting or even adjoining rooms at the AC, we would need to be in the modern part.

One issue for me is that it appears that most of the better restaurants are in or near the centro. In fact, one of these is inside the AC Santa Paula.
Since we will eat dinner late, I think it might be a plus to have the hotel be close to the likely places to eat...

We stayed at Casa Morisca a few years ago and thought it was great. Some rooms even have a partial view of the Alhambra.
There's a bus across the street that can take you up to the area above the town (sorry, forgot the name)or around town. We walked to a number of good restaurants from the hotel. The breakfasts were good too. I'd certainly recommend it.

Thank you - CM looks great, but I've settled on the AC.
Scrunchy, our trip is over the Thanksgiving holiday, so I'll report back on how it was (and whether I regret not going with the other one!).

No, you were right, it is Scrunchy!!
I was all settled on the Morisca but I think I am going to change to the AC. We had booked the Mirador room at Casa Morisca. It is very small and there are reports of people not being given this room even though they booked months in advance. I would be VERY annoyed if this happened to me, as the view is the main attraction for me to this hotel...
Do you think you will try the AC restaurant? Apparently the chef is a rising star...(I heard that right here!)

The restaurant looks pretty fabulous. And we might actually be able to fit in a long tasting menu - since we're staying at the hotel, we can send the boys back to their room after an hour!

So I'm actually going to be in Puerto Banus Nov 6-Nov 10. I was thinking of one night in Granada since it is a 4.5 hr driving according to a search I did.
I don't want to spend over $100 for the one night. Any recommendation for a hotel?

i can't recommend the dona paula too highly - stayed there when our older son was tiny and the staff were fantastic. the building is beautiful, the restaurant top class, the facilities as in all ASC hotels top notch and you're v close to the best bar/tapas areas. i think you chose well

We stayed at Casa Morisca this past May. We were 2 couples. We had an"outside room, (the window in the room faced outdoors). It was small but as we were only staying there 2 nights, it was fine. The other couple we were with had a room that the window faced into the interior "courtyard" They found it stuffy and uncomfortable.
I would go back again, as I liked the location, and the feeling of authenticity. But would make sure I had a room with exterior windows.

One other bonus in choosing the AC Santa Paula is that the AC Hotel Group is joining with the Marriott Hotel Group and will be marketed as the AC by Marriott. It should happen somewhere around the 1st of the year. This means that you will be able to earn Marriott rewards and use them when booking selected hotels. You should also be able to make reservations through Marriott once the booking system is updated.

"It is very small and there are reports of people not being given this room even though they booked months in advance."
It happened to us although the room we got was fine (outside).
The hotel is very charming, we walked to Alhambra ( up the hill) from there.
