Granada paradore
We will be 2 days in Granada. I have heard amazing things about this paradore. I also understand it is right in the Alhambra. Please give me some informations about this. Can we go easily to the main town Granada? is it far from this paradore? we should see the alhambra in the nighttime - is this correct? please tell me all you could. thankyou.

We stayed there for two nights in September and loved the place. You may want to see if it's even available as it's the most heavily booked one (our travel agent said we lucked out as she has never been able to book anyone in there, including herself). Great views and not a bad walk into town (probably want to cab it home as steep climb back up to the Parador). Had both our dinners at the parador on the terrace - great food and wonderful view looking at the Generalife. Don't forget to go into town and see the sunset from the park (forget the name). I think seeing the Alhambra at night would have been great, but I've heard the palace is not super well lit so may not see as much of the detail.

Don't give up if they tell you the parador is booked. Keep calling since they have cancellations and don't keep a waiting list. When cancellations occur it's first person to call gets it. I persisted and we got in. (Make sure you have cancellable backup reservations.)

you can see photos of the parador if you go to their website www.parador.es. There is an English version and you can click on a map to find information about each hotel, including prices, photographs and maps. It is one of the most expensive paradors, because it is just so popular. (I've just downloaded a pile of parador information for myself, so I can tell you it is 202.30 Euros per night, throughout the year.) I go with the advice to contact the hotel direct rather than use the e-mail reservation system, which can take days to get back to you

Susanne -- we didn't stay at the Parador while in Granada, but did have lunch in the restaurant there. The above posters are right that it is very lovely and very popular. You should book as early as possible.

We walked from the Parador into town (Plaza Nueva, near the edge of the Albacin) and I'd say it's about a 1 1/2 mile walk downhill through an area that is mostly garden (no homes or businesses until you reach the Albacin). I wouldn't do it in the dark. I also wouldn't walk from town to the Parador (uphill) unless you are fit and used to lots of walking (we are -- we live in NYC). So, if you're planning to stay there but want to go into town at night for dinner or tapas bars, I'd suggest you cab it.

From the Albacin, you can see the Alhambra lit up at night. It is quite beautiful.
