Granada-better to stay in the Hotel Alhambra Palace or Granada Center?

I will be staying in Granada for 3 nights and don't know if it is better to stay in town (the University area)or in the Alhambra?

If you can afford and, more important, can get in, at least for one night at the Parador in The Alhambra, DO IT!!!

Stay at the Alhambra Palace as it is near the Alhambra and that is the main sight in Grenada ( not the only, but the main). I understand it is a beautiful hotel, second only to the parador.

A very nice and less expensive place than the other two hotels is the Hotel America. It is listed in Karen Brown's Book on Inns. It has a beautiful courtyard and is near the Allhambra. Do a search on this forum for the hotel.

Lou, You are better off staying up the
hill---the local bus runs down to town
all the time and is easy. The best
place we ate was only 200 meters from
the Alhambra Palace---forget the name.
Any of the 3 hotels mentioned are good.

That's "sites" and I agree with Bob's advice. Believe me, you'll want to gaze on the Alhambra as much as you can.( As you know the America is a charming spot, but I don't know if it's open all year).

We stayed at the Alhambra Palace for 2 nights in May and although it was a lovely room, the hotel had a cold and formal feel to it. I loved the city part of Granada and would recommend staying there if you could find a hotel that suits you. P.S., our room overlooked the city and not the Alhambra--I don't think you can see the Alhambra from the hotel.

Anyone stayed at the Truinfo Granada? They got a decent writeup in Fodors. We are booked to stay there in a few weeks.
