Got a great liitle booklet on agritourism in Poland today.
Came in the packet of info from the Poland national tourist office.

I think we will try one of these for at least one night, and deduct if from the two nights we were planning for Wroclaw. Cuts our driving in half (i.e., it's about the midpoint between Prague and Wroclaw anyway, just over the border, near Jelenia Gora).

Called the family and reached a man who spoke perfect German (to my ears). No e-mail but they do have a fax, so it doesn't feel like "too great" an adventure in language.

40 PLN (about 10 euro) per per room per night, or full board for 25 PLN. Almost seems too good to be true!

Anyone stayed in any other agrotourism places in Poland before?

I'll let you know how it turns out when we get back.

Best wishes,

Rex
[email protected]
Not in Poland, but in Romania. It was the highlight of our trip. We stayed for 3 nights at a rate of $15 a head a night, and this included breakfast and dinner. We also did something there which we have nover done before. We hired a guide to take us around the local area--it made the trip. This was also at such an incredibly low price that we actually were embarassed. I think we paid about $20 a day for morning to night guide service. Have fun.

Thanks, "Julies". We're crossing our fingers they will send us something in the ordinary mail (I'll wait at least 3 or 4 weeks).

The low cost reallyis almost embarrassing. On a recent broadcast, I heard Rick Steves mention that these little mom'n'pop places might have to pay dearly to send a fax (I didnot specifically ask for a fax reply to the fax I sent to them). He cautioned that sending additional faxes "demanding" a reply was not particularly reasonable.

We actually think the place looks fine from what is shown in the booklet from the PNTO. Just need help figuring out where the place is. The town doesn't come up on viamichelin.com - - mappy.com doesn't include Poland, and www.shellgeostar.com has been shut down now (again).

We did get a nice folding map from the PNTO so at least we can find the town.

It's a gamble I feel like taking, based on my pleasant conversation with the owner over the phone, and of course, I will call the day before from Prague.
Happily, I got a fax reply from someone in Zurich this afternoon who apparently represents the property, since the owner (his sister) died two years ago, and now her widowed husband maintains it (this must be who I talked to). Fortunately it has an e-mail address, so I am hoping he can refer me to additional info.

The price also is now much higher than published (20 euro with breakfast per person, or 30 euro full board) - - but it is so still so low that I am not going to let that deter me. I almost expected it to be too good to true anyhow. How can Poland EVER join the EMU if they are charging the low prices cited in that booklet!?
agrotourism is really cheap way of traveling and 20Euro with breakfest is way too expensive... with no problems you can find something for 5-10Euros...

In Silesia (SouthWest) and Mazury (NorthEast as well as Pomorze (NorthWest) German language is popular.
