Gondola Repair Shop

I have heard about the Gondola repair shop in Venice. Where is it located and is it really a "don't miss" thing?

It's worth a walk-by if you happen to be in the area. As far as I know you can only view the shop from across a small canal. The architecture is different from that of most of the other buildings in Venice. I thought it was worth a photo or two.

Steve, sorry but Campo San Trovaso is in the Dorsoduro section, not on Giudecca Island. The workshop (Squero) is on the Rio di San Trovaso, between the church of the same name and the Zattere. It is not open to the public<BR>as Betsy points out.

While not open to the public, you can view it from the bridge. It looks more Swiss or Alpine than Venetian. Has pointed roof and old dark boards with geranium flowers in window boxes. It was not what I was expecting at all, but it was kind of cute and interesting. Nothing to plan a day or a morning around but if it takes you to the Zattere walkway on the Dorsoduro, that alone would be worthwhile. It's a lovely, less touristy area to walk.
