Peter, Peter, why, why did you mention the "sheets" thread? I'm going to have to go back to re-hab now...

Dayenu, we are in Italy now and I notice that these Italians are a lazy lot. sitting around in cafes all day long. since they don't seem to work, they must all be living off their pickpocketing income, right?

Next time I go to Italy, I’m going with Anne. She obviously has a well developed sense of priorities. Glass of beer with lunch, wine with dinner and a shot of something on the way home. >>

you mean that there's another way?

adu - you will need to bring an OEM part as proof. The engine block is preferred.

I have some more questions.

Is there a main thoroughfare in Venice that is used more than others, you know the Route Canal?

What is the Bridge of Thighs? How big must your thighs be before they will not let you walk? Like tolls for trucks where they pay by axle, do you pay per pound?

My wife likes "Stairway to Heaven" do the old men bands in San Marco know the words?

Bridge of Thighs has only steps, no flat parts. This firms your thighs into steel-buns. Is there a fee collector on the bridge?

What is "basilica frari?" Is "ferrari" the car "frari" in Italian?

The Ferrari Basillica is indeed a temple to Automobilius, the God of motor vehicles. This is strange, as there is no road access to said basillica.

A Venetian oddity.

We'll have to cross the Grand Canal going to our hotel - can we put all 5 suitcases in one traghetto, and will they charge per person or per suitcase? Will they still serenade us?

Well, it depends on the time of day that you wish to cross the Grand Canal. A serenade, as the name suggests, is music for the evening.

I have witnessed people being assaulted by the “music” of the piano accordion as they traverse the length of the Grand Canal. I believe that this experience may be well avoided by people of taste.

Traghettos carry shopping trolleys, tradesmen with their tools, and the occasional dog. I have not seen traghettos carrying luggage. Doubtless the carriage of luggage can be negotiated.

I note that you are taking five suitcases, which would indicate that you are taking up permanent residence in Italy. Oh, how I envy you!

I do hope that you have arranged an appropriate residence permit.

Is "residence" Italian for hostel? No, we are not backpacking. I cannot believe traghettos cannot transport luggage! How do Italians travel in style? Don't they have holidays?

Hi-
I’m new to this forum. I’m confused about the glass boats to Murano. Why is this a modesty issue? Surely you aren’t worried about the fishes looking up your skirts. Does this mean that there are mermaids in the canals of Venice? Or are there underwater criminals like in that movie The Italian Job? I’m planning a trip to Italy and I really need to know!

While in Venice, you might wish to visit Burano and try the island's signature dish, the burito. Burito of course is the diminutive of the Island's name and it is made of a gourmet mixture of beans and cheeses wrapped in a lacy thin pancake that served as the inspiration for the island's main tourist industry. However, although delicious and unique, if you eat too many you may come down with a severe case of the vaporatos from which the common term for public motor launches, vaporetti, are derived. On your way to the island in one of these vaporetti you will without doubt scent the connection.

I came up with a brilliant idea. As I am a little apprehensive going to this city for the first time, we'll go to Las Vegas and stay at Venetian to get acquainted with Venice!! Oh, I am so smart!

And what is "sirenissimo" ? Is this a place where sirens live(d)?

I have encountered very few blind people in Venice.

The risk of falling into canals and all that, I suppose. I offer this as conclusive proof for the theory of natural selection.
