You can't usually book tickets in advance for the Sunday Galway-Dublin train - there's never any problem getting seats so they don't put on the reserved carriages.
I don't usually get the 4:15 on sunday, i usually get a later train. But once or twice I've taken a mid afternoon train on a Bank Holiday and it was not the normal train with tables and chairs but a DART/Arrow type train with seats but no tables. If you are thinking of the 4:15 it's worth putting in a call to Iarnrod Eireann to make sure it's the normal train not a suburban train.

Padraiq - I had seen your post earlier and finally had time to read it last night. Very nice! I will make a note of things to do/see.
Littlejane - thanks for the info. I did call and was told that it wouldn't be a DART-like train but went ahead and purchased the earlier train tix anyway, and figure I can always catch one of the later 2 trains if need be. You don't think that would be a problem since they're usually not full, i.e. I wouldn't be risking anything, correct? Making sure. (p.s. what DO you do re: changing your baby on the Galway train? guess I'll ask for any tips now while it's on my mind!)
Well, the weekend is booked. Chose the B&B, chose Zetland (would have tried the castle hotels and several others but all are completely sold out) and have the rental car & train tix booked.
So I guess that's it! Other than figuring out where the heck I'll drive around to, but I'll work on that between now & tomorrow. Thanks everyone so much for your guidance. Wish us luck on the weather - I don't have the luxury of waiting on a better forecast and am trying to get out of Dublin on the weekends while I can. We shall see!

Fab - the Zetland is great you will have a lovely time. Hope the weather cheers up for you! If not there are worse places to snuggle up by the fire and have a couple of pints.
Re changing: I bring a big fold out changing mat and do it on the floor in the loo. Most unhygenic and as you can imagine as the journey goes on and more wobbly people feel the need to pee, the less i like putting my baby on the soggy floor... I find the loos near the business class / premier bit tend to be generally cleaner!
Have a great weekend
