Going to Hungary - is travel insurance a good idea?

I can not believe people even think about paying out money for a trip and not including insurance. Maybe as someone asked earlier the type of insurance you get in the USA is different to the one sin the UK. Also maybe as we UK are often flying out to Europe , as it is easier for us then the cost of some of the annula ones are reasonable compaired to the USA. I don't know.You don't pay for insurrance to just cover the cost of claiming back lost suitcases, or a cancelled trip. The main point of them. from a UK point of view, is to cover your self for any illness or accident that may occur. I know a friend who has a son in his late twenties. When he was 21 he went to Greece with the lads and no insurance. He was badly injured in a car crash and it cost his famliy 1000's in medical care and to fly him home to a local hosptial. They had to re mortgage their house to cover the costs. So too me it seems a very selfish attitude to not bother, as it is the rest of the family that has to pay the price for your penny pincing.
