Hi peaches,
Aveda is easy. The hairdresser I'm going to here uses Aveda products and at home there's a salon right around the corner that uses them. I'm seriously thinking of changing hairdressers because of it but, geez, I've been going to her for about 20 years! But that's a whole other thread.
The product I'm looking for but can't seem to find anywhere is Twisted Sista 30-Second Curl Spray. I've tried googling and emailing those places but haven't gotten any response and I can't find it in any store. Anyone got any ideas?

I just watched what I believe is the last episode of Downton Abby. Were there only four episodes? Does anyone know when it starts again?
I think there were 6 episodes, GTG. it is out on DVD today! the next series will be in about a year's time - you'll have to come back!

Didn't think I'd enjoy it that much but it's soapy fun. Can't wait for it to air in the States.

One of our local PBS channels (we have 3) has begun to advertise Downton Abbey as 'coming soon'.
Hopefully it'll air in the 'ugh season', January after the holidays, when it's cold and snowy outside and you really want to snuggle up and watch a good movie or production.
Broadmoor? We lived 4/5 miles away from the prison - the only time in the whole of the 12 years that we lived there and someone escaped? We were on holiday in Cornwall
A test alarm sounds in Camberley at 10am every Monday morning - you could always tell who was visiting the town because it'd startle them, locals just went about their business

annhig, I'm going to go back onto ITV and look for episodes I've missed. I've been watching it a day or two after it airs because we don't have a TV licence here. '...you'll have to come back'. Oh. OK. Gee, twist my arm! Alternatively, I could just stay here till it comes back.
'Soapy fun' is just about right and also gorgeous eye candy. The costumes alone are worth tuning in.

We're going to the John Soane Museum today. I would have liked to go on the candlight tour but we missed the first Tuesday and the next one isn't till December 7th and we've got something booked at the Bristish Library for that evening so we'd better do it while we can.

I ran into Robert Downey Jr in Malibu at a restaurant. He showed up in plaid flannel sleep pants (I think it was during one of his rehab sessions). Not quite as good as having a cake baked by Emma Thompson, but still interesting to see.
GTG, is next Thursday Nov 18th still ok with you? It doesn't seem like anyone else is able to attend, but since there are five of us traveling together, it is like a mini GTG in itself. We create our own party.
Morning glory, would you tell me about crackers? I have seen a few in the stores here but have no idea what to do with them. I thought it might be fun to bring back for Christmas this year.

One for each person, and you invite a neighbour to pull your cracker and vice versa; or some people like to get everyone at the table pulling them together, in a chain (Freudians can JUST SHUT UP for the moment, please). There should be a pleasing bang, and out of the cracker should fall a paper hat, and a small gift item whose worth will depend on what you paid and where you bought the crackers (perhaps a puzzle, or a plasticky toy that won't outlast the pudding - but I've still got a miniature pack of playing cards from a superior cracker years ago}. Oh. I forgot to tell you about today.
Since it was a chilly damp day we thought it would be perfect for a bit of museum hopping. Our first stop was the very fascinating Sir John Soane house. What a treat! I really have to come back in 2012 when they finish the top floor apartments. I loved the Picture Room with its hidden galleries, especially the very funny detailed Hogarths and the chock-full-of-stuff crypt. If you're going there, though, do yourself a favour and take a small flashlight (torch?) The crypt is poorly lit and there's so much that can't be seen, even in the daytime, so I have no idea how they manage on the Tuesday candlight tours. I couldn't get the audio-tour to download onto my ipod (I'm very bad at that) but the little brochure you can buy there was pretty good.
The glass artist, Michael Petry, has a show of his work scattered throughout the house. It's unique and beautiful (to me, anyway) and it was all I could do to keep my hands off it. His pieces suit the house perfectly and look like they belong there. He takes silver-plate vessels (bowls, urns, etc) and melts very clear glass in them at very high temperatures so they fill the bowls or look like they're spilling out like water. The way it was explained to us is that he heats them at about 1000 degrees but the vessels don't melt because they have a lot of nickel in them. Here's one picture:

After we left there, we stopped for a drink, of course, and then walked over to the British Museum. On the way, we passed two places that brought back lovely memories for us of our last long-ago trip to London, Sicilian Avenue and the Museum Tavern, so that was nice.
The museum is so beautiful. We both especially loved the new Great Court. We spent most of our time in the King's Library and the Egyptian and Assyrian galleries. Of course, we saw about a billionth of the museum so we really do have to go back (is there anything I haven't said that about?)
The original plan was to come home and eat last night's leftovers but, y'know, we were so close to North Sea Fish...
We had a lovely dinner there and now we're home getting ready for the Costwold trip tomorrow. We're meeting our friends at Heathrow at 8 a.m. and then we're off. I've done all my homework, got my map, my guidebooks and, most important, my fodorfriends' input. We're taking the laptop along so maybe I'll get a chance to check in (or ask for advice) while we're there.

oh ann, I think a trip to London is in the cards for you! You could combine a Wellcome talk and the John Soane house and maybe lunch with me in-between. Come on the 18th and we'll both crash ltr's party!

My group is my DS, my DD and her DH, and my traveling girl friend. My DH does not travel. We travel in a "loose herd". If someone wants to do something that others don't, they can opt out if they want to do something else, although they call this forum my cult, so I am sure they will want to be there in case they need to have an intervention. They probably think there is a secret Fodor's ritual that is performed at a GTG.
