Glyfada

Has anyone been to Glyfada, Are the beaches there nice? Can you recommend one?

We will be in Athens for three days in August, and we will be craving the beach after two days of touring in what will be HOT weather. I do not want to venture to far from Athens since we have an early flight the next morning. I was also told that Glyfada is a happening spot with locals in the summer.

Suggest you post this question on the Trip Advisor Athens forum, where you will get some useful replies. I've gone past the Glyfada beaches on the bus from Piraeus to Athens Airport, but never had a chance to stop and enjoy.

There are many beaches along the coast, Faliro would be the quickest to get to, about 30 mins on the tram, as opposed to an hour? to Glyfada.
There are 2 destinations for the trams from Syntagma, if you take the one for Voula get off at Edem, if you get the one for SEF get off at Batis. Both of these are the first stops as you get to the coast. They also both then run alongside the coast road, the Voula one takes you through Glyfada. There's also buses, but I find them more uncomfortable when it's hot.
Some photos of Faliro beach in January & March included in both these sets,

Although there are some lovely places at Glyfada, many are expensive, but Faliro is free, with places to eat or drink (one simply called Edem, right by the tram stop of the same name).
Vouliagmeni has great places too, although a bit further o than Voula, long stretches of beach with many tavernas, restaurants & bars,

Bear in mind that any beach will be packed in August, everyone in Athens will be wanting to escape the heat!
Obviously these aren't the only choices, but may help you get an idea.

Great comments and suggestions. I will definitely make my way to the coast.
