Glasgow - seeking restaurant suggestions
Hello all,
We will be in Glasgow for two nights in late June, ending our two-week trip to England and Scotland. Our last full day in Britain will be on a Rabbies tour of Oban and the Highlands before we fly back home the following morning.
I’m seeking dining suggestions for these two Glasgow nights. Before our arrival in Glasgow we will have stayed two nights at Traquair house near Innerleithen, but that’s the only exposure to Scottish dining during our trip until we reach Glasgow.
We’re not looking for Michelin places. Rather enjoy pubs, locally owned restaurants, also enjoy South Asian food. We’re staying at the Premier Inn on West Nile St. and we would prefer to walk (30 minutes or so from the hotel is fine), not take cabs. (Unless the best Scottish pub in the world is a cab ride from West Nile Street, then we’ll do it!)
Many thanks.

Was in Glasgow last September. Really enjoyed the one at "The Buttery" location, very close to our hotel. Beautiful place, fabulous lamb.

...also enjoy South Asian food.
Consider the Shish Mahal, a fave Indian place for decades. You could ride the subway to the Kelvingrove stop quite easily, and maybe stroll over to the University of Glasgow campus in the late light after dinner - it's very pretty.

For your locale my favourites for South Indian would be Rishi's

and for Scottish, Two Fat Ladies city centre branch.

You're also just around the corner from the Horseshoe Bar for a traditional Glasgow pub.

Or a short walk from The Pot Still and its epic whisky collection.

Another vote for Two Fat Ladies City Centre. Superb!
We also liked the Mussel Inn--simple, but excellent seafood dishes.
The Pot Still was just around the corner from the flat we had rented and we made a number of visits there for a nightcap. I don't think there's a whisky that they don't have in stock. I wouldn't go there for a meal, but you can certainly get a pie if you are peckish.

Gamba is lovely for seafood, also Mussel Inn. If you like faded art deco glamour, try the Rogano at Royal Exchange Square, bit of a Glasgow institution. For more casual eating, Café Gandolfi in the Merchant City. For a good bowl of soup after a walk in a warm and friendly pub where local folk singers gather with voices and fiddles and perform on weekend afternoon for the sake of it, Babbity Bowster in Blackfriars Street. Easy walk from West Nile Street across the square. Two Fat Ladies is also terrific, as is The Buttery, although it is not really on the easy walking track from where you are staying. You've picked a good central spot to stay! Wide range of great pubs and restaurants well within your walking range.
