Every time we travel we spend a lot of time looking for souvenirs for our sons (two 18 year olds and a 15 year old). It used to work, when they were younger, to just pick up a t-shirt of some unique candy and coins from a different country too, if we have difficulties finding something.

Now the boys are more mature and less likely to be impressed by such things like chocolate bars and Euros.

We will be in Greece for a week and a half in April. If any of you have traveled to Greece with teenagers, what kinds of things did they want to spend their (or your) money on?

Thanks!

Bob

I bought my teenage boys natural sponges which had been 'caught' locally.

They were a bit younger than your teens at 13, but found it a useful gift. I usually try to find some interesting packets or tins of food for them to try at home.

I found a silk-screened T-shirt in a Plaka shop that depicted Pericles giving his famous oration to the Greek assembly. Bought it for my son-in-law the lawyer ... but now my grandson (who has gotten HUGE at 13) found it and seized on it. Of course, his class is studying Rome and Greece so it's more hip in his crowd.

A T-shirt or sleeveless sports shirt that might appeal to them might be a sports T-shirt of a Greek soccer team ... an authentic sports T-shirt from abroad (not a "fake" tourist one with Roman-alphabet lettering) is considered cool. In 2003, Greek 2004 Olympic T-shirts with Greek lettering were a hit with my 2 guys.

brotherleelove2004: A great idea!

Julia and Jan: Thanks for your ideas. Sports-related gear might be the best idea I think.
