Getting to Auxerre from CDG

How do I get the train to Auxerre from CDG? I will be renting a car in Auxerre...or should I pickup the rental at CDG?

When I took my trip to Burgundy a few years ago, I took the train from Gare de Lyon to Dijon, where I rented a car. I'm not completely sure, but I think the train to Auxerre probably leaves from Gare de Lyon also. I took the train back to Paris from Sens (just north of Auxerre) and it was to Gare de Lyon.

From CDG, I took the Air France Bus (very easy and much cheaper than taxi) to Gare de Lyon, where it makes a stop before ending at Gare Montparnasse. Then when coming back from Burgundy, I did the same thing in reverse - back to CDG for the night before my early AM flight home.

Hi again. I checked the SNCF site and the train does leave from Gare de Lyon, but with one change in Laroche Meginnes.
But it still only takes 1 l/2 hours. Of course you won't have as much choice of trains as I had to Dijon. There does also seem to be an early AM train from Paris Bercy, but that's harder to get to. No matter what, you'll love Auxerre - and Burgundy!

There is a direct train from Gare de Bercy (just SE of Gare de Lyon) to Auxerre-St-Gervais that departs at 08:36, but I presume that you won't arrive at CDG early enough to get into Paris in time to catch that train.

The next train departs from Gare de Lyon at 12:31. There is a change at Laroche-Migennes. You'll arrive at Auxerre-St-Gervais at 14:13.

The next train departs from Gare de Lyon at 13:38. There is a change at Laroche-Migennes. You'll arrive at Auxerre-St-Gervais at 16:27.

There is a direct train leaving Gare de Bercy at 16:39 which arrives at Auxerre-St-Gervais at 18:16.

The fare for the Air France coach #4 directly from CDG to Gare de Lyon is €14. Your bags go in the luggage bay.

If you're traveling light and don't mind schlepping your own bags, it's cheaper to take the RER from CDG to Gare de Lyon. Take the RER B to Gare du Nord. Follow the "correspondance" (connection) signs to transfer to the RER D and take it to Gare de Lyon. The current fare (which may go up on 1 July) is €8.20.

Where are you going immediately upon getting the car?

I had to travel from CDG to Auxerre a few weeks ago. It's not difficult.

Originally, I had planned on taking the Air France bus to Gare de Lyon in Paris. Depending on when I arrived, I could have caught a train to Auxerre (with one change of trains) from Gare de Lyon, or I could have walked to Gare du Bercy & caught a direct train to Auxerre.

When I landed, however, I actually felt great & it looked like rain, so I was able to change my rental car
reservation and pick up a car at CDG and drive down to Auxerre, with a stop along the way at Sens to get a break from driving and to explore the cathedral.

But I don't know if you should get the rental car at the airport or Auxerre. It depends on how you'll feel after traveling.
