Getting to and from Heathrow
I am going to be in London for seven days in March and will be taking a day trip to Rome. Our flight leaves at 6:50 a.m. from Heathrow to Leonardo Da Vinci airport in Rome, and I am planning on taking the train from Paddington to Heathrow, but am wondering what the best way would be to get to the train station as it will be extremely early and most tube stations won't be open? Also, out flight comes back into Heathrow at 11:05 p.m. or so, and we'll be in the same situation (how to get back to hotel from Paddington Station). Any help is greatly appreciated!

you say "we" - so I would NOT take the train to LHR. For 2, a pre-booked car service will be cheaper and more convenient than a taxi plus the HEX train.
I'd do a car service for both journeys since traffic will not be an issue at those times of day.

Go to www.justairports.com and you will see that the cash fare for a saloon (sedan) from the Earl's Court area to Heathrow is £24.
You could book this car service roundtrip.

"How much do you think a taxi would cost from the Earl's Court area "
You definitely do not want a taxi - As I suggested, a car service is much better. JustAirports that TimS links is one of the best and 1/2 the cost of a taxi . . . .
