Getting from Paris to Venice

I'm trying to figure out the best way to get from Paris to Venice. I've heard about all these cheap intra-Europe airlines, but haven't found one which connects these cities. Does anyone have any advice?
Thanks.

Paris is still not all that well connected. Venice marginally better.

Go and RyanAir are both competing in the Stansted (London)-Venice market.

RyanAir can get you from Dinard (Brittany) to London, or from Paris (Brauvais) to Dublin or Glasgow.

Virgin Express flies Brussels to Milan.

I look at itineraries, and think of it like this - - where can I see if I fly into or out of one of these cities?

Flying intra-europe cheaply ain't all perfect yet.

Consider also making it part of your trans-atlantic travel, in the form of a stopover, or an open jaw (or both).

And if you find it necessary to consider the purchase of a one way ticket, always look at the round trip price (with a return trip you might just accidentally "miss" - - wink! - - whoops, I forgot, I have this return ticket, and I'm no longer in Europe! what a shame!)

When? with air fares, the DATE determines everything.

Travelocity would usually show fares for Ryanair, but I wonder if their fares are not loaded right now. Their website says that their online booking is down until Jan 10.

The fare on BA is $244.70 (USD) for dates in February (I arbitrarily used Feb 8-20). I have seen fares about half that high (at times) on RyanAir.

On the train, it is anywhere from a 10 and a half hour to 11 hour trip, with one or two changes depending on which train you take. The faster routes involve a change in Milan.

Fodors

The one-way fare on the night train with a beryth iun a 6-berth couchette is 155 US dollars, and ith a berth in a 3-berth sleeper about 85 dollars. This train leaves Paris Gare de Lyon at 2006 band reaches Venice at 0844, a 13 hour trip, so you get full day at each end of thevrip, and save a bill for a hotel or a hostel.

The day connection costs much the same as the couchette night journey, involves a change of train, and takes ten or eleven hours. Paris 0754, Milan 1455 to 1505, Venice 1755,. Or Paris 1054, Milan 1750 to 1810, Venice 2122. All these day trains except the 1810 have buffet cars.

I've taken these data from the Thomas Cook European timetable, which may be in the reference library of a city near you.

Please write if I can help further.

Ben Haines
