Getting from Gatwick to Nottingham

Hi,

My husband is going to a conference in Nottingham next week and flying into Gatwick Airport. Is it possible for him to catch a train from Gatwick to Nottingham or will he need to go into London and change trains? He's usually pretty good about navigating train schedules once he lands, and he's got plenty of time, but I know he'll be exhausted, so if anyone has any suggestions it will give him a heads up.

Thanks!

You can get a bus from Gatwick-Nottingham, which goes via London and takes 4-5 hours.

You can also get the Gatwick Express to Victoria, get a tube or taxi to St Pancras and get the train to Nottingham from there.

But another option is to take the slightly cheaper Thameslink service to Kings Cross Thameslink (200m from St Pancras) or Luton or Bedford, which are both on the Nottingham line, and get the train from there.

I would take the National Express

Less hassle IMO

Is it possible to go from Gatwick to Bedford, Luton now - last Sep when i was there Thameslink trains were terminating at Kings Cross Thameslink due to construction at Kings X - it seems would be for several months - i assume it may be reopened - do you know for sure? Otherwise there would be bus substitutions Kings Cross Thameslink to other side of Kings Cross to get to Bedford, a further hassle. Direct bus from Gatwick may be the way to go.

(Julia t - Thanks for your wonderful description of Ludlow)

According to the 2005 Thameslink website the trains go all the way to Bedford, via Luton. there are trains to Nottingham from both stations.
