I still have to find the "insult" in annhig's comment but as a German living in Berlin, I cannot see any relevant increase in crime.>>

nor me, cowboy, and certainly none was intended. interesting that Dukey thinks I would want to insult my friends!

Make that me too - Dukey is talking nonsense - annhig would never ever be insulting in that manner - never ever IME - one of the most thoughtful and measured Fodorgarchs - we all should look up to her - especially Dukester. Where the Heck was he coming from on that?

Dukey you owe annhig an explanation or an apology or both.

In Dukey's defense, I *think* he meant that asking anyone to respond to a stupid Trump remark is insulting in and of itself; I did not take him to mean that annhig is generally being insulting in her comment.

Pal, with all due respect, your efforts to patrol this forum and hold people to account for their remarks, while clearly well meaning, are a bit heavy handed, IMO. Demanding that Dukey explain or apologize is not furthering your goal of greater civility and understanding on this board. Just my two cents.

I agree and pledge to no longer make comments about civility - honest - it don't work anyway and makes me the boogie man - I agree with your take on Dukey - maybe we all misread - my apology to Dukey.

Cheers!

why should that be? aren't we allowed to ask people for their own experiences compared to Trump's assertions? how else do we prove what rubbish it is?

BTW, I'm not asking Dukey to apologise to me - I know whether I intended to insult my friends or not, and what he thinks about it is pretty irrelevant.

I live in the big city of Frankfurt. Crime is NOT worse here. We all get along just fine.

Trump is such an ignorant blow hard. Why anyone pay any attention at all to his statements is beyond me?

In all the years on Fodor's I have never ever never ever seen Annhig be purposefully insulting to anyone let along one would think her friend(s?)?

I do not feel insulted by Ann. I feel insulted by Trump.

All European countries are much safer than big U.S. cities. There is no increase in crime rates. The number of refugee immigrants had dropped significantly. The refugees have not increased the crime rate. Nobody feels unsafe if one meets refugees on the street - why should we?

The incidents of New Year's Eve in Cologne are greatly blown up by the media. My son was there with his girlfriend, so they were eye-witnesses. Yes, things got a bit out of hand that night, but this is usual when a huge crowd meet on a large public square to celebrate New Year's Eve.

According to the latest government statistics in Switzerland, crime has been dropping in Switzerland over the last five years.

As for Germany, statistics show that crime has been increasing. However, the rate of crime committed by foreigners is not proportionate to the rate of incoming immigrants. In fact, there has only been a slight increase of crimes committed by foreigners despite the drastic influx of foreigners. It seems that the percentage of German citizens who commit crime is about the same as the percentage of foreigners who commit crimes.

The article below also points out that crime against immigrants has increased significantly. Perhaps Trump should point that out too.

Given the prison numbers in the States and the weird proportion of blacks held there the idea that tRump can go around saying anything about this non-problem is a harbinger of what might happen.

FWIW, crime has been dropping in most American cities as well, with Chicago being a major and troubling exception. Trump speaks to people who feel disenfranchised; his message that everything in the US is "horrible" isn't true, but it rings true to them.

Also FWIW, I do not believe he stands a snowball's chance in hell of getting elected, but it's going to be a discouraging campaign season for anyone who values democracy. And his spewings will tarnish America's reputation overseas, I fear.

If you wish measure America by Trump, then we will measure France by the Le Pens, Britain by Boris, and Germany by the NDP.

by those criteria, the UK comes way out in front. Whatever you say about him, he is not a fascist.

Somebody forgot Putin. And Sissi. And El Hassad.
Ah, scrap those, not really democratically elected.

True Paisley died two years ago. Of course, it all dies when they die.

And there is no anti-Islamists or anti-immigrant sentiment in the UK. Got it.

BTW, Trump has never been elected to any public post.

Meaning Trump is? You've gone a bit overboard on that one.

No, she meant Boris Johnson, whom IMD compared to Trump and LePen.

I agree with annhig, the UK comes out on top in that race, by a mile. And I'd argue France does, too, because although I don't agree with the Front National's platform, at least the Feuding LePen Family has gotten members elected to things. Trump is a legend in his own mind.
