Germany/Munich question

We are going to Germany (end of May-early June). Would like some input for a place to stay on the outskirts of Munich, so we can park our rental car and take the U-bahn/S-bahn into the city. Thanks!

Driving in Munich is not so difficult that you need to do that.

What level of accomodation were you looking for?

Understand that parking in Munich is expensive, so looking for a small hotel or pension so can train into Munich.

I don't think it is even so hard to find a hotel IN Munich with FREE onsite parking. Insel der Muehle has it. Not the cheapest place in the world, nor the most central, but a nice place.

There are undoubtedly others.

Best wishes,

Rex

The hotel chain Ibis has some good located, almost central hotels, with parking. They are relatively cheap and good located, always near to public transportation. Try to have some information in the homepage of Accor (www.accorhotels.com)

Try this...

http://www.pension.de/indexseiten/ur...iete-frame.htm

...go to "KARTE"(on the top bar) then "MUNCHEN" then pick "81/82" or "85". You should find a listing of pensions and an accompanying map.

Here is the website of the Munich Tourist Office, in English. Click on Accommodation. It lists just about every hotel in Munich and surrounding areas by area.

The hotels are also listed, in descending order, from the best right on down. Many of the listed hotels also have a clickable link to their website.

This should be all you need. When you have narrowed it down to a couple of hotels, come back to this board for possible reviews.

NorthSideSue- If the Munich visit is at the start or end of your trip, you ought to ditch your car and use the public transportation. It is wonderful.
That said, I have always found a free place to park my car close to the hotel on the street in Munich the (few)times I kept the car.
As other posters recommended, if you can be more explicit about where you want to stay or what you want to do or how many are in your party and how much you want to spend for lodging, you will get a lot of suggestions.
Prosit!

We are staying at the Hotel Uhland www.hotel-uhland.de in Munich in May.
Do a search, it gets great reviews on fodors as well as frommers. Easy walking distance to city center and close to u-bahn. They also have free parking for their guests behind the hotel. Very reasonably priced and a fantastic breakfast buffet.

NorthSide,

Heed the advice of js regarding the Uhland. I had the distinct pleasure of staying there last summer, and I wouldn't hesitate given the chance for a return visit.

Best of luck.

we like to stay at the Sheraton Arabella Westpark--great access to transportation--very good rates on the weekend in particular as this is a business hotel
