TimS - I played around with bahn.de and failed to see any red Rs (which i referred to above) but only an black R in a box - the universal symbol in Europe it seems for 'reservations' and then under the details it says <high occupancy to be expected, please reserve>
or in the case of Germany to France trains then the details says 'subject to compulsory reservation' - so I am wondering if the red Rs I once saw are no longer valid - or do you see them sometimes - I admit to not referencing bahn.de much lately. Thanks.
ILUVPARIS has her/his answers so I don't mind asking this now as I just could not find a red R.

I have another rail question so I'm hoping you might be able to help....
I bought a point to point TGV ticket separately from our pass for a one way trip from Munich to Paris. A reservation was required for the trip so, I've paid for it and I noted that we'd like to be seated next to each other. After making the train reservation, I received an Acrobat file from bahn.de with our tickets. I'm trying to figure out if our seats are listed on the ticket. All I can tell is that our train is TGV9576 and it departs on Track 13. I don't see anything that shows what rail car we're supposed to be in or, whether we have assigned seats?
Even though we don't speak the language, tickets are usually pretty easy to read. I'm hoping that someone who travels regularly can tell me whether the seat & car should be printed on our ticket or, whether we have to check-in at a ticket window to get our seat assignments. Even when I look at a copy of my order on the bahn.de website, it's not showing seat assignments. Any ideas?

Yes the "voiture" (car) number should be on the ticket as well as the seat numbers "places"
Now there are not any to my knowledge direct Munich to Paris TGVs but a ICE to Stuttgart where you change to the TGV - the Munich to Stuttgart ticket may not have any car or seat info on it since trains in Germany do not require seat reservations which are option and at an extra fee (unless recently changed) - but the Stuttgart to Paris portion - the TGV portion should have a voiture or German equivalent or 'place' or German equivalent for seat on it.
I have checked bahn.de and can see no direct Munich to Paris TGV - you have to change in Stuttgart and apparently are looking at that ticket.
Again for someone to talk to call Byron at www.budgeteuropetravel.com for a definitive answer - IME even though you tell him you bought the ticket elsewhere he will patiently answer your question. I know of no other person who is accessible by phone that can expertly answer the question. Some on Fodor's can but you cannot talk to them to describe exactly what the tickets say.

again I think there are no TGVs going directly from Munich - in a search on bahn.de it gives this typical Munich to Paris trip - changing in Stuttgart to the actual TGV - ICE Munich to Stuttgart reservations option - you could use your German pass until Stuttgart of course and if the Munich to Stuttgart ticket is refundable that may save a lot of money (but not if you have a SPAR discounted fare)
München Hbf Mo, 18.10.10 dep 10:23 14 ICE 598 Intercity-Express
Stuttgart Hbf Mo, 18.10.10 arr 12:47 10
Stuttgart Hbf Mo, 18.10.10 dep 12:54 9 TGV 9574 TGV
Subject to compulsory reservation
Paris Est Mo, 18.10.10 arr 16:34

Scrub all I said - I did not check before 7am and see you are on the 6;15am or so TGV that does - the only one of the day - that does go direct from Munich to Paris - so there must be a voiture (car) and seat (place) number on your ticket - has to be or a screw up - if none I would go to the station as soon as arriving in Munich or at any other German station and check on it - all TGV tickets do indeed IMK come with mandatory seat reservations.
Sorry about not checking earlier than 7am - my fault.
