Germany/Austria/Italy Itinerary
Hi,
My hubby & I are planning the following 10 day itinerary in May this year. Does anyone have any suggestions/ideas on it?
Day 1 Arrive Frankfurt/train to Munich
Day 2-3 Munich/Castles
Day 3-6 Salzburg/Vienna
Day 6-10 Venice
Day 11 Depart Venice
Is it too much for 10 days?
Thanks,
Michelle

Assuming you plan to travel from Munich to Salzburg on day 3 and from Vienna to Venice on Day 6 you aren't leaving much time for Salzburg or Vienna. If you spend Day 4 in Salzburg you will spend part of Day 5 traveling to Vienna. Ditto for Munich and the Castles. As most of day 1 will likely be eaten up by travel, you will only have a day and a half to tour Munich and visit the Castles.
Having said that, only you know how fast or slow you like to travel.

michelle1018,
Two things.
1. You said, Arrive in Frankfurt/train to Munich. Why not just, Arrive in Munich/train to hotel? Save 4 hours of ICE travel time and about 162 Euros between you and hubby.
2. If that is not possible, and you must fly into Frankfurt, then I would add one day to Munich, and remove one day from Venice.

Depending upon your interests, I think you will want more time in Austria. I spent four very full/fast days in Vienna and still did not hit everything I could have wanted to do. Maybe drop Munich or Venice. Why not fly into Munich to save time?

Sorry, I made a typo!
Day 4-6 is Salzburg & Vienna. Or perhaps just Vienna.
Also, we have to fly into Frankfurt. By taking the train, we actually get into Munich by noon on day 1. I know we'll be jet-lagged, but I think we'll also be really excited.
Thanks for all the advice!

Well, Salzburg's lovely as well. But I think with so little time you would be better to choose one or the other not try to squeeze both in, and there's more to see in Vienna. If you do want to do both, you could jettison the Munich area instead.
