Traffic is not as much of an issue in Germany as in say countries like Italy, Holland (whose population density I believe rivals or tops India or China), France, etc.

This is IMO because of WW2 and subsequent leveling of cities so that when rebuilt the medieval street grid was bulldozed along with the rubble and like in Berlin and Munich you have wide avenues that are easy to drive on - still city centres in places like Berlin and Munich are largely off-limits to vehicles - cars are less an issue traffic-wise in Germany but still are not conducive for visiting cities.
