Genoa-Cinque Terre-Lucca-Florence
Hello!
My friend and I are flying into Genoa and flying out of Florence and have 9 full days in Italy. We are thinking about spending 1 night in Genoa, 3 nights perhaps in Cinque Terre (Santa Margherita?), 2 nights in Lucca, and 3 nights in Florence. Just wanted to see if this sounded reasonable. We definitely don't want to seem like we are on the go the whole trip, so I am wondering if we should only stay at three locations instead of 4. We are hoping to spend a half day in Genoa, explore Portifino, hike Cinque Terre. We also heard Lucca is definitely a place to visit for a few days.
We appreciate your suggestions. Ziba

well, you need to allow for jetlag, travel, etc
say you arrive in genoa around 10 am, by the time you pick up your luggage, get through customs, grab transportation and a map, get to your accommodations and unpack, you will probably be ready to go to sleep. Not to mention cray check in times, like 3 pm
there goes your night in Genoa.
Lucca two nights might be a little tight, and you might want to take a bus daytrip to Pisa if you've never been there.
Lucca to Florence is like a two hour trip, so there's that.

I agree with Photoman: Have at least one full day for Genoa. Intriguing city. Much more interesting than Cinque Terre, but that's a question of taste.
A half-day trip to Pisa is best done by frequent train. You can get off at the S. Rossore station to save some walking.

About one hour. Drop Lucca and add it to Florence so you have less hotel changes. Stop at Pisa on your way from CT to Florence and store your luggage at the train station (Pisa Centrale). You can hop back on a train and be in Lucca in about 20-25 minutes. Or if you want to see the tower, take the local bus to the tower from Pisa Centrale. From the tower, Pisa S. Rossore train station is a block or two. Hop the train there to Lucca. Spend a few hours in Lucca (or most of the day) and then retrieve your luggage and continue on to Florence (one hour from Pisa by train).

I enjoyed Lucca much more than Pisa, with all the vendors lining the walkway to and from the tower. Really turned me off. We spent an hour there and left. We enjoyed spending the day in Lucca and wish we had alotted more time there. Riding bikes along the 'wall' was a fun and relaxing way to spend a few hours.
